Keyword Cannibalization happens when two or more pages on your site compete for the same keyword. The result? Google splits the "link equity," and neither page ranks well.

How to Diagnose

If you see two URLs swapping positions in search results for the same query, you have a cannibalization issue.

The Fix: Merge or De-Optimize

  1. Merge: If the pages serve the same intent, combine them into one "Power Page" and 301 redirect the loser. (See: Content Audit Guide).
  2. De-Optimize: If they serve different intents, change the title tag and internal links of the secondary page to focus on a different long-tail keyword.
